There was a very big run of feeder cattle with 51,700 head at the test auctions, which is a normal post-holiday big jump with lots of calves coming to town. The bulk of the prices were $2-5 lower but mid-week auctions dropped even more. In fact, those later week auctions quoted prices up to $10 lower.

Turning to slaughter cows, there was a big run with 12,900 head at the test auctions which is typical after the holiday period. Prices dropped mostly $1-3 lower, but there were instances of $3-5 lower in some areas. Additionally, some markets started to run bred cow specials.
