South Texas will be months just assessing the damage from Hurricane Harvey, maybe years recovering. But the process is well underway, assisted by National Guard units from several states. In response to pleas for help to get hay to cattle stranded in isolated locations due to massive flooding, National Guard units brought in Chinook helicopters, loaded them with hay donated from points all across the country, and dropped hay to starving cattle.
National Guard aircraft also helped assess damage across the region. Farm Press South Texas contributor Logan Hawkes contacted Texas National Guard to gain access to these photos. We are deeply grateful for his efforts and the National Guard men and women for their rapid response to this overwhelming disaster.
