There was another big run of feeder cattle this week coming off of drought conditions on wheat pastures. Numbers were down a little from last week’s very big run, but still 11,000 head over last year. Prices were mostly steady with some weakness on yearlings and some firmness on lighter weights.

Turning to slaughter cows, numbers at the test auctions really declined in volume most likely because of storm conditions in some areas. That fact put more variation in price trends between the different regions. The bulk of the prices were steady to $2 higher but some areas with very low numbers were easily $2-$6 higher.
