Challenges of global food production reach far and wide. A new education and research facility at Hy-Plains Feedyard in Montezuma, Kan., aims to provide common sense information for stakeholders in all areas of the cattle industry. The facility offers a controlled environment and support staff necessary to conduct science-based research and ability to offer education for consumer outreach.

The facility officially opens Wednesday, Aug. 23, with an invitation for producers and researchers to discuss global food security. The afternoon panel discussion will highlight “The Stakeholder’s Role In Global Food Sustainability.”

The success of sustainable global beef production can be achieved by improving efficiencies through the value chain, customer service and best practice management.

Members of the panel will represent stakeholders from all cattle production sectors, led by vice-president of the World Wildlife Fund U.S. Food Team, Carlos Saviani, followed by Luke McKelvie, McDonald’s Global Farmer Program manager; Emily Murray, Cargill general manager-McDonald’s Beef; Dr. Bob Smith and Dr. Trent Fox, Veterinary Research and Consulting Services, LLC; Dr. Randall Spare, Ashland Veterinary Center, Ashland, Kan.; Mark Gardiner, Gardiner Angus Ranch, Ashland, Kan.; and Dan Dorn, ABS Powerline Genetics business manager.
