Executive Director Position

The National Center for Beef Excellence (NCBE) has worked diligently since its inception to drive innovation, increase technology use and advancement in the beef industry, and to deliver additional data connectivity between the different segments of the beef supply chain. This is accomplished by working through three focus areas: 1) Breed Association and seedstock support services 2) Commercial cattle industry service and outreach and 3) incubation and business acceleration for beef cattle-related businesses. Established as a 501 (c) (5) entity, our organization is headquartered in Saint Joseph, Missouri.

NCBE is currently seeking application for the position of Executive Director. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the administration, business activities, and strategic planning for NCBE as well as business development. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Duties for the executive director will include managing company assets, optimizing financial operations, providing leadership to staff and contractors, establishing business goals, advising the board of directors on organizational activities, and executing special business projects. The ideal candidate must possess a strong entrepreneurial drive, outstanding communication skills, strong leadership abilities, as well as planning and organizational skills.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Board Governance: Works with board to fulfill the organization mission.

  • Responsible for leading NCBE in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board.

  • Responsible for communicating effectively and accurately with the Board and providing all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

2) Financial Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

  • Responsible for maintaining and developing other revenues necessary to support NCBE’s mission.

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of NCBE, to include submission to the Board financial statements that accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

  • Responsible for fiscal management including operating within the means of the organization, ensuring optimum resource utilization, and maintaining a positive financial position.

3) Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the NCBE mission is fulfilled through services and programs offered.

  • Responsible for implementation of NCBEs services and programs.

  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that NCBE can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.

  • Responsible for the enhancement of NCBE’s image by being active and visible in the Beef Industry and in the local community and by working closely with other industry, professional, and civic organizations.

4) Operations: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.

  • Responsible effective administration of NCBE operations.

  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement to increase the overall visibility of the organization.

  2. Supervise and collaborate with staff.

  3. Strategic planning and implementation.

  4. Serve as NCBE’s primary spokesperson.

  5. Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations and use those relationships to enhance NCBE’s Mission.

  6. Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.

  7. Oversee organization of Board meetings.

  8. Review and approve contracts for services.

  9. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Professional Qualifications Needed

  • Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.

  • High level strategic thinking and planning.

  • Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to potential customers, collaborators, and the general public.

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff.

  • A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.

  • Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence.

  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.

  • Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong public speaking ability.

  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
